Center for Recovering Families
If you or someone you know at home, at work, at school or in your community needs help with a substance-abuse problem, please call 713-914-0556. The Council has trained counselors on staff to help you.
Through the Center for Recovering Families, The Council offers adult intensive outpatient treatment services (Healing Choices) and aftercare and recovery support and intensive outpatient treatment and alternative peer group support for teens (The High Road), as well as family and corporate intervention services. We also provide links to activities for the recovery community.
At the Center, individuals and their families begin a comprehensive, lasting process of change as they commit to recovery from harmful use of substances or behaviors. In treating maladaptive behaviors, it is difficult to achieve lasting success without also addressing the underlying family dynamics at work in each individual’s life. We provide ongoing programs in family systems-based counseling, especially in relation to issues of dependency, co-dependency, compulsive behaviors and addiction.
Following intensive outpatient treatment with us or inpatient treatment at another facility, our clients join an aftercare group and begin participating in alumni group activities.
The Center for Recovering Families was established in April 1985 out of the the vision of Mary Bell and two
Houston families. They recognized this community’s need for counseling services to assist individuals and their families with addiction and other compulsive behaviors. In 2002, the Center joined The Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston, where it continues to offer quality, family systems-based counseling and outpatient treatment services. The Center is supported by fees for service and private contributions.
