Workshops & Events

The Council is dedicated to providing high quality continuing education workshops to all substance abuse and mental health professionals. Providing workshops presented by experts in the field, The Council is continuously striving to be the place where professionals come to meet their licensing and re-certification requirements.

All continuing education credits presented at The Council are recognized by several licensure boards including, the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals, the Texas State Board of  Social Worker Examiners, the Texas State Board of Examiners of Licensed Professional Counselors and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Four times a year, The Council presents the Eager Beavers & Procrastinators series. Four 3-hour workshops are scheduled over a two-day period giving professionals the option of attending any or all for continuing education credits.

A one-day, 6-hour workshop, is also presented at The Council four times a year. Known as the Friday Forum series, these workshops provide professionals with an in-depth workshop on a variety of subjects.

Brené Brown Ph.D., LMSW was recently named Behavioral Health Scholar-in-Residence at The Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston. She is a member of the research faculty at The University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work where she has spent the past eight years studying shame. In this partnership with The Council, Brené will present a workshop on her Connections Curriculum as well as a variety of other workshops throughout the year.
